About the Speaker:
Deb
Hansford, CPIM, CIRM, CSCP, C.P.M., CPSM provides fun and innovative
educational sessions for participants to discover ideas to take back to their
company and begin implementation immediately. Sometimes she purposely
challenges the status quo, just to “mix up the bag” and see alternatives.
Deb’s
career includes a span of supply chain responsibilities including moving,
counting, planning, controlling, sourcing, negotiating and purchasing of
materials and services.
With
a degree in marketing, Deb’s educational perspective is from the demand side
and her experience is from the supply side of the supply chain. As the owner of
PreCrest LLC, she enjoys encouraging people to stretch their boundaries to
learn and reach unlimited potential. She is grateful for her vast past
experiences, which help her; appreciate the operational challenges that many of
her workshop participants experience every day. Deb is also recognized by
APICS as a Master Instructor for CPIM, CSCP, Lean and Instructor Development.
About the Topic: Could Cycle Counting Contribute to Insanity?
Ok,
now that we have your attention, what does all this mean?
Einstein
has been credited for the defining insanity as “doing the same thing over and
over again and expecting different results”.
Cycle
counting includes counting inventory at predetermined intervals based on the
assigned ABC code. As the counts are occurring, root cause analysis is supposed
to be occurring.
“What gets measured gets improved”.
Is
the measurement showing how many root cause analysis events took place, or is
the measurement the accuracy of a predetermined amount of SKU that were
supposed to be counted for the period? Or another way to look at it does
counting more often mean more accurate inventory? Of course we know the answer
to that rhetorical question. Then why do many companies insist that all A items are counted once a month, B items counted once a
quarter and C items counted once or twice a year?
Does
cycle counting improve accuracy, or increase our chances of insanity?
Join
us for this fun and interactive session, discussing cycle counting and possible
effective alternatives. Hope to see you there!
